A year after Malcolm-Jamal Warner's death, his widow, Tenisha Warner, is suing his mother for $1.2 million. The lawsuit is about a prenuptial agreement.

Tenisha filed the lawsuit in a Georgia court, naming her mother-in-law as a defendant.

Tenisha and Malcolm-Jamal Warner married in May 2022 and signed a premarital agreement before that.

The lawsuit says Malcolm-Jamal Warner did not do what he promised in the prenup.

According to court documents, Malcolm-Jamal Warner agreed to buy life insurance with Tenisha as the beneficiary.

He also agreed to pay her $16,000 each year and $5,000 per month for working for him.

Tenisha said she tried to settle the estate privately. Malcolm-Jamal Warner wanted to provide for their daughter and her.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner was planning a new estate plan before he died. He was 26 when he made his old plan.

Tenisha is struggling to care for their daughter. She had to take action to protect their rights.

Tenisha asked a judge to stop any trust assets from being distributed during the lawsuit.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner died at 54 while swimming in Costa Rica.

He drowned in a strong current near a beach in Costa Rica.

The police said his body was found the next day.

On the anniversary of his death, his mother paid tribute to him on Instagram.

She said he was not just her son, but also her friend and confidant.

His mother said she has seen the good and bad in people since his death.

She wishes she had more time with him and could cook for him and talk to him one last time.

Tenisha hinted at tension with her mother-in-law in a CBS interview.

The interviewer asked if she communicates with her mother-in-law.

Tenisha said everyone is grieving and she is focused on her daughter.

The interviewer said Tenisha and her daughter are a unit.

Tenisha said she has to prioritize her daughter and herself.
