That's why I wanted to make this series.

When I was a child, I fell in love with the ancient world.

It was the myths, the legends, the tragedies, the philosophy

that captured my imagination.

And that's always been my fascination with Pompeii.

I've been to Pompeii twice.

The first time was when I was seventeen in 1998.

I was studying Latin and Greek.

It was beyond any expectations I had.

When you visit Pompeii and Herculaneum,

you feel this extraordinary resonance.

It's very moving because thousands and thousands of people

were completely frozen in time.

And I can’t stress enough how unusual that is.

That we, as human beings from the present day,

can physically visit a place from the past

and witness our ancestors.

And it’s impossible not to be affected by that.

Is there another way of looking at all this evidence?

This is a story about Pompeii that you have never seen before.
