Couple Finishes Walking Across Canada

They walked over 15,000 kilometers from Newfoundland to Victoria.
Simon and Julie walked the Trans Canada Trail in parts since 2018.
They will finish the last part to Mile Zero in Victoria on Saturday.
A reporter met them near Mount Wells to talk about their journey.
The interview was edited to be shorter and clearer.
Why did you want to walk across Canada?
Julie and Simon like long hikes and wanted to try the Trans Canada Trail.
Simon thought it would be a fun challenge, but it took longer than planned.
What was your journey like?
Julie said they focused on small parts of the trip, not the whole thing.
They walked over 15,000 kilometers, but it doesn't feel real yet.
What were some good parts of the trip?
Julie liked meeting new people and getting help from strangers.
People gave them water, food, and a place to sleep, which was very kind.
Simon liked waking up in a beautiful place in the Kootenays.
He saw elk near his tent, which was a great experience.
Walking across Canada changed their view of the country.
How is the Trans Canada Trail?
Julie said the trail is new and still has some problems.
The trail is not good for long walks because it's not well-planned.
Sometimes the trail is closed, but the map doesn't show it.
Simon said some parts of the trail are great, but others are not.
Newfoundland has a great trail, and Prince Edward Island is good for cycling.
Some provinces have good trails, but others make them walk on roads.
What did you learn about each other?
Julie and Simon are a good team and help each other.
Simon plans the route, and Julie takes care of the details.
They learned to appreciate each other's strengths and weaknesses.
What will it feel like to finish the journey?
Julie is excited to finish with their friends and family.
Simon feels like he knows Canada better now and appreciates the journey.
He's happy to have experienced Canada in a slow and meaningful way.
