Chin Mee Chin Confectionery Opens New Store at Nex
The new store is near Serangoon MRT Station and is the first branch outside the old store in Katong.
Chin Mee Chin was started in 1925 and is famous for old-school bakes and a retro feel.
It closed in 2018 but was reopened in 2021 by a food company with the help of the original family.
The CEO of the company said they wanted to expand the brand and Nex was a good choice.
They felt they had the right team and systems to open a new store this year.
Nex is a busy place and will help the brand reach more people.
The company plans to open more stores next year.
The new store will not be the same as the old one in Katong.
The team did not want to copy the old store exactly.
The old store has a special charm that works because it is authentic.
The new store has a modern feel with some of the same design elements as the old store.
The new store will be open later than the old one, until 9:30 pm.
The menu has some of the same items as the old store, like kaya buns and curry chicken rice.
Some old favorites are not on the menu at the new store, like cream horns and cupcakes.
These items might be added later if customers want them.
The new store cannot make buns in the same way as the old store due to safety rules.
Prices at the new store are similar to the old store.
Some items, like toast sets, cost a little more because they come with bigger drinks.
There are new items on the menu, like a kaya custard puff and sandwiches.
The new sandwiches include fried chicken and grilled chicken options.
Other new items include nasi lemak and beef pie.
There are also new drinks, like kaya cloud kopi and pandan tea.
The new items are only at the Nex store for now but might be added to the old store later.
The new store opens on August 8 and will be open every day from 8 am to 9:30 pm.
