William Shatner and Daughter Melanie Talk About Their Cancer Battles

William Shatner told Fox News that people focus on different things at different times in life.

William Shatner and his 61-year-old daughter, Melanie, said they both had cancer at the same time a few years ago.

Melanie found a lump on her breast four years ago and decided to get it checked, even though a mammogram didn't find anything five months before.

She told People magazine that she went to the doctor despite the earlier clean bill of health.

A technician didn't find anything at first, but then found the cancer after a second look.

Melanie was diagnosed with a type of breast cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes.

William Shatner said his daughter was very aware of how important her life was to her and her family, and he was very upset.

Melanie is a mother of two daughters with her husband Joel.

William told Melanie not to worry about the medical bills and to send them to him.

Melanie said her father made her laugh during a tough time, joking about the cost of her treatment.

Melanie had many rounds of chemo, radiation, and a double mastectomy over 18 months.

She said chemo was very physically hard, and radiation was emotionally draining.

Just as Melanie was finishing her treatment, her dad found a lump on his cheek.

A doctor told William it was just a blocked gland, but another doctor advised him to get it removed.

Cameron Mathison said noticing small changes in his body saved his life after a cancer diagnosis.

William said a doctor friend told him to get the lump checked, saying it with love and concern.

In June 2023, William was diagnosed with a type of skin cancer that had spread to his lungs and brain.

Melanie remembered thinking she didn't have the strength to care for herself and lose her dad at the same time.

William was more positive and said the universe was taking care of him.

The doctors told William that if he had come in later, he would have died, but he was lucky.

William had the tumor removed and had two years of immunotherapy.

The 95-year-old had the tumor removed and underwent treatment.

Melanie said her father kept working and moving forward, and they made sure he was never alone.

William Shatner is known for his role on 'Star Trek'.

William said they found the perfect doctors for both his and Melanie's cancers.

William has stayed busy with new books and records coming out next year.

William said he's healthier now than he has been in years and that the brain needs activity to stay healthy.

By the end of 2024, both William and Melanie were cancer-free.

Melanie said it was the third time she heard her father cry, when she told him her cancer was gone.
