Cher fights guardianship over son Elijah, accusing daughter‑in‑law of chasing money and fame

Cher says her son Elijah Blue Allman's wife, Marieangela King‑Allman, is using the guardianship fight as a “quest for money and/or a bit of fame,” and the family strongly opposes her becoming his guardian.

On August 28, the 80‑year‑old singer filed a supplemental brief in Los Angeles Superior Court, asking the judge to reject King‑Allman's appointment as guardian.

Elijah is currently held at the New Hampshire State Hospital while he faces criminal charges for burglary, assault and other felonies, and a guardianship over his person was started on July 7.

Cher first sought a temporary conservatorship for Elijah’s estate in December 2023, arguing that his severe mental‑health and substance‑abuse problems put his life at risk and that he might waste the money he receives from his father's trust.

A judge later moved the hearing on the guardianship issue to December 1 and, in April, denied Cher’s request to name private fiduciary Jason Rubin as conservator, saying there was not enough urgency given Elijah’s hospitalisation and pending charges.

The dispute highlights how concerns about a family member’s mental health, drug use and the protection of trust assets can turn personal disagreements into complex legal battles.
