A picture of a future West Gippsland hospital was shared by the Victorian government in October 2022.

The Victorian Liberal National Coalition has promised to build a new hospital in West Gippsland if it wins the election.

In 2022, the then-premier, Daniel Andrews, promised $675 million for a new 223-bed hospital in West Gippsland by 2028.

Even though the area is growing fast, construction has not started yet.

The hospital got money for planning in the 2023 Victorian budget as part of a $320 million fund for seven big hospital projects.

Today, Liberal leader Jess Wilson said a Coalition government would invest $850 million in the new hospital.

The new hospital will have 230 beds, an emergency department, and homes for healthcare workers.

Ms Wilson said giving Victorians good healthcare is a top priority.

West Gippsland is growing fast, but it does not have the basic infrastructure it needs.

The old West Gippsland Hospital in Warragul was built in 1939.

Shadow Health Minister Georgia Crozier said the community has waited four years for the project to start.

The community is not getting the government's attention, she said.

We will start working on the final plans and deliver on this promise.
