Brunei, Southeast Asia's second-richest nation, sees 400,000 tourists in first half

Sea arrivals to Brunei, the second‑richest country in Southeast Asia after Singapore, rose by almost 70% compared with last year, showing the growing promise of cruise tourism, Xinhua News Agency said.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Datuk Dr Abdul Manaf Metussin said the government aims not only to bring more visitors but also to increase the money each tourist spends, Borneo Bulletin reported.

The average hotel stay dropped from about three days to two days. Still, hotel revenue grew about 17%, rising from roughly BND17 million (US$13.3 million) to BND20 million.

Brunei, famous for its large oil and gas wealth, its absolute monarchy under a rich Sultan, and its clean rainforests, recorded 763,375 tourist arrivals in 2025, a 13% rise over 2024.
