0:01-Chase, I always love it when you're here.
0:02It's always nice to see you. Welcome back.
0:03-Thanks for having me back.
0:04-I was doing some reading up about you,
0:06and I found out that you love rom-coms.
0:09-I do, yeah. -Romantic comedies.
0:11-I'm kind of like a hopeless romantic.
0:12I don't know, it's the --
0:14I mean, listen, Matthew McConaughey, Kate Hudson,
0:16you kind of can't go wrong. -Yeah.
0:17What other romantic comedies did you love?
0:20-"50 First Dates," "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days."
0:23I mean, just go with it. You can go and go and go.
0:25-How did you discover those?
0:27You just go, "I'm a romantic. I want to be in these."
0:29-I was like 10 or 11. And I think it -- Okay.
0:31Weirdly, it started with "Ghost" and Patrick Swayze,
0:35which is not a rom-com by any means.
0:37-No, but yeah, but more rom, yeah.
0:38-Yeah, a little more rom and dram.
0:40-Yeah, more rom and dram than com.
0:41Yeah absolutely.
0:43-And then I just kind of fell into --
0:44into the rabbit hole of comedy rom.
0:47Rom-com. -Did they ever inspire you to
0:48make any great romantic gestures in your own life?
0:52-You know, I always wanted to do the,
0:53you know, Heath Ledger down the steps
0:55and the singing, and I just -- I couldn't do it.
0:57I'm so scared. Like, I'm such a wuss.
1:00-You're scared of doing it. -Yeah.
1:01And then, you know, you look in the mirror
1:03and you try to do the Matthew McConaughey.
1:04You're like, alright, alright, alright.
1:05-Yeah. You can't. -No, Stokes, don't.
1:08-Don't, Stokes. Don't do it. I love the beard, by the way.
1:11This is legit. You're a stud.
1:13-I'm grown up. -Yeah, exactly.
1:15You are grown up.
1:16Is this for that NASCAR thing you're doing?
1:18-It is. -Talk to me about this.
1:20-Yeah. So I'm starting a new project.
1:21It's called "Thunder Road" with Dennis Quaid.
1:24-Wow. And do you know how to race cars?
1:26Do you know how to drive cars? -Well...
1:28Uh, you know, so, like on "Outer Banks" --
1:30-That's where the acting part comes in? Yeah, yeah.
1:33-With "Outer Banks," they kind of were like, "You know
1:35how to drive a boat, right?" I'm like..."Yeah."
1:37-Sure. Yeah. -Mm-hmm.
1:38As actors, we just say yes to everything.
1:40So it was a yes.
1:42And then we got in the boats and I kind of did the same for this.
1:44And so they're like, "Alright, we'll come to Atlanta.
1:46We're going to go to Atlanta Motor Speedway.
1:48We're going to drive." I'm like, "Oh. Okay."
1:50So I get there and this sweet old Southern man is like,
1:53"Alright, we're going to watch this VHS tape."
1:56Yeah, VHS tape, Gen Z. Hello. Google that one.
1:58[ Laughter ] -Wow. VHS tape of how to drive?
2:01-Plops it in and then they're like, "You ready to go?"
2:03And I'm like, "Oh, we're getting in the cars now?"
2:06So I do two laps with a guy. -On the track?
2:10-On the track, and then he's like, "Alright, brother,
2:11you ready to roll?"
2:13And I was like, "Oh, I'm driving now?"
2:14-You're like, "No, I'm not ready to roll."
2:16-I'm -- Sure, I'm going to do this, I guess.
2:19Another car pulls up. Nobody with me, just me.
2:22And they just send me down the track.
2:25-Wow.
2:26-It was kind of badass, I guess.
2:27-Yeah yeah yeah.
2:28And are you good? I mean, are you --
2:30-Yeah. You know what, Jimmy?
2:32-What's up, buddy?
2:34-I've got some...
2:36I've got some beef with you right now.
2:38-I can feel, I can feel.
2:40-Yeah, yeah. I'm sorry. I'm not good at hiding things.
2:42It's -- -Yeah.
2:43-This is rare when this happens,
2:44but yeah, it happens to people.
2:46You have beef with me? You talking about Drew Starkey?
2:48-Yeah. We don't have to --
2:49-We don't need to say his name anymore.
2:50-Yeah, he came on the show.
2:52-Yeah. Yeah, he did that. -Yeah.
2:54-He's just a nuisance, you know.
2:55He's everywhere. -I know, but you were --
2:56We're friends.
2:58You've been on the show a bunch of times
2:59and have been great to us.
3:00-Yeah. -I just figured --
3:01-Yeah. -I just figured, you know what?
3:03Spread the wealth, you know?
3:04-Sure. Yeah. Maybe not Drew. [ Laughter ]
3:07-You don't have to see him anymore.
3:09He talked very nicely about you, by the way.
3:12-I love that man. Um, I really do.
3:15-Are you -- You became friends.
3:18I think he was telling me like --
3:20like in real life. Did you help him move?
3:22-Oh, God. He told you? Yeah.
3:24-Did you, like, show up in a U-Haul truck or something?
3:26-Yeah. So we -- When we started the show,
3:28we had auditions against each other
3:30for years prior to the show.
3:32And so we kind of were like, wait a minute, we --
3:35And so he's like, "Can you help me move?"
3:37And I was like, "Yeah, of course I'll help."
3:38Help a brother out. And so he has this U-Haul
3:41and I'm thinking he's got all sorts of like ridiculous stuff
3:44inside this U-Haul.
3:45He's like, "Alright, here we go."
3:46Opens the back.
3:48It's one single mattress, three coffee cups,
3:52a keyboard, a filing cabinet.
3:55-Yes. I've purchased one of those. -And a record player.
3:58That was it. -And a record player.
3:59-In a full-blown U-Haul. [ Laughter ]
4:02-He could just move in there and live in there.
4:03-I was like, "This is it?
4:05This is cheaper than the rent you're going to pay."
4:07-But you guys became really close friends.
4:10-We did. Yeah. Yeah, we did.
4:12-You brought me actually something from your iPhone.
4:14-Yeah, I did.
4:16-So you will just pick up your phone and look at your photos.
4:18And he has taken 100 photos of himself.
4:21[ Laughter ] -So yeah. Yeah.
4:23So Drew does this thing like I'll leave my --
4:25my phone in my cast chair,
4:27and then I'll just come back and go to get on my phone
4:29and that's my camera roll.
4:31-See, that's why we love this guy. Come on.
4:33He said he got a little choked up
4:36because this is the final season.
4:37-Yeah. It's so funny.
4:39He claims to be like a non-emotional person.
4:41And he's like, "I was -- I felt like I was a psychopath.
4:43I wasn't crying at all." No, he was a mess.
4:46That dude did not stop crying.
4:48I looked at him and he's like... [ Sobbing ]
4:49-Oh, stop it. Oh, my gosh. -I'm like, "Okay.
4:51Drew, come here." And then it was --
4:53-But he said that kind of -- he got to kind of gel
4:55with you guys on this final season
4:56where he hasn't had before.
4:58And he was like, "This is bumming me out
4:59'cause I love everybody in this crew.
5:01And I kind of grew up with these people."
5:03-Yeah, it was kind of a weird dynamic for the longest time
5:06because Rafe was always on his own
5:08and the Pogues were out on their journey.
5:09So, you know, the end of season 4, we have, you know,
5:12the unfortunate death that happens.
5:14And then Rafe is stuck with the Pogues.
5:16-As John B, you're the narrator.
5:18Was it extra emotional for you to kind of this is the final?
5:21This is the end. -Yeah, yeah, it was weird.
5:23Um, you know, we started this thing and we would all go
5:26and do the voiceover work together.
5:28So I'd be in the studio. The whole cast would be there.
5:30-You actually lived together at one point.
5:32-We did. We did. During the pandemic.
5:34-Yes. You lived together during the pandemic.
5:36And then I remember this character was invented.
5:38-Oh God. -Tammy.
5:40And Tammy... [ Laughter ]
5:42I'm a big fan.
5:43[ Cheers and applause ] -Tammy.
5:46-Now, how did --
5:49-Sweet Tammy. -Sweet Tammy.
5:51How did Tammy get invented?
5:53And it will never go away.
5:54Do you realize that?
5:56-Yeah. No, it's -- it haunts me.
5:57-[ Laughs ] -Obviously.
5:59-Is Tammy getting her own spinoff?
6:00-I think she might get a new spinoff. Yeah.
6:01We're talking to Netflix actually backstage about it.
6:04-Oh. That's perfect. -We're working on it.
6:05-Can we tell everyone what's happening in the final season
6:08of "Outer Banks"? -I can, yeah.
6:09So, you know, obviously after JJ's passing,
6:13the Pogues are going out for revenge.
6:15And so it's really
6:17what are they going to do to get the things
6:18that they love in life?
6:20And how are they going to take care
6:21of themselves into the future?
6:23So it's action-packed, as always, a lot of love.
6:25And we're landing the plane.
6:28-There you go, bud. Congratulations on a good run.
6:29It was awesome. Come back whenever. We love you.
6:31[ Cheers and applause ]
6:33I want to show a clip.
6:35Here's Chase Stokes in season 5 of "Outer Banks."
6:38Take a look. -You deserve this.
6:40-Yeah, man, you deserve it. -Jesus! Pope!
6:45Yeah! Yeah, don't -- don't frickin' do that, Pope.
6:49-What's the problem?
6:50-You can't just pop up like David Blaine.
6:54-I asked you for a ride yesterday.
6:56-I thought that was for yesterday.
6:57-No, that was for today.
6:59-Well, I had to go drop off a package,
7:00so that's what I'm doing.
7:02-In Figure Eight? -Yeah.
7:04So if you could just watch the van, that would be great.
7:07-What kind of package? -It's just a package.
7:09Alright? -Right.
7:12And what's the crowbar for?
7:14-Pope, if you could just man the fort while I'm gone.
7:17It'll be quick.
7:18-Okay, so you want me to be a lookout?
7:20-I'm not asking you to be a lookout.
7:22I'm just asking you to, uh, be aware of your surroundings.
7:25-Come on, John B, come on, my man!
7:27[ Cheers and applause ] Chase Stokes, everybody.
7:30The fifth and final season of "Outer Banks"
7:32begins streaming this Thursday on Netflix.
7:35We'll be right back with a performance from the Stray Cats.
7:39Stick around, everybody.
