The recent National Congress of the Vietnam Musicians Association for the 2026‑2031 term highlighted concerns about AI’s expanding role in music composition, urging the industry to consider the cultural consequences of such fast‑produced works.

The Bao, a veteran composer, said the association’s 1,500 members include only a modest number of young musicians, and they often lack deep Vietnamese musical influences.

AI can now generate musical ideas, materials and complete recordings from simple browser prompts, turning a brief text input into a finished track within minutes.

Mai Kien, speaking for the younger generation, proposed three concrete steps: a Digital Music Museum to archive heritage, stronger professional training that blends digital skills with traditional techniques, and a legal‑ethical framework that would bar fully AI‑generated songs and require clear disclosure of any machine assistance.

Do Hong Quan, Chair of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, warned that technology can automate sheet music, but the ultimate authority of art always belongs to humans, because a machine cannot feel or convey lived experience.

If the industry and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism act quickly, Vietnam can safeguard its musical identity, give young creators solid foundations, and still benefit from AI as a supportive tool rather than a replacement.
