US immigration officers in San Francisco said they arrested a 64-year-old man named Charles Peter Billone in Santa Cruz, California.
On August 4, immigration officers said Billone had been hiding in the US since 1991. He is wanted in Canada for a crime involving a child.
The police in Hamilton confirmed that the man arrested is the same person they were looking for.
The police are working closely with the court on this case.
Right now, there are no plans to bring him back to Canada.
US officials said Billone has been in trouble before for stealing, fighting, and using drugs.
Billone is still in US custody while they decide what to do with him.
