The US left Afghanistan in 2021, and the Taliban took over. Many people tried to escape. Some Americans helped Afghans who were in danger. But there is still much work to be done to help them.
When the Taliban took Kabul, many people who helped the US were in danger. They needed help to be safe.
Two groups, World Relief and AfghanEvac, help Afghans in different ways. They have been working to resettle Afghan families in the US and bring home people who worked with US troops.
A lawyer warned that a recent court decision on immigration will cause problems for Americans.
Many Christians in the US wanted to help Afghans who were fleeing persecution. They donated to help them and gave them a place to stay.
Most Afghans who came to the US after the fall of Kabul were allowed to stay temporarily. Some were given temporary protection, but it was not permanent.
A bill called the Afghan Adjustment Act was introduced to help Afghans get permanent status in the US. But it did not become a law, leaving many Afghans without a clear future.
Since 2021, the situation for Afghans has not improved. Many are still waiting for permanent status, and some have been sent back to Afghanistan.
A new bill has been proposed to help Afghans who are in the US temporarily. It would protect them from being sent back and give them more time to find a permanent solution.
There is still much work to be done to help Afghans who were evacuated from Afghanistan.
Many Americans welcomed Afghans in 2021, but the work of helping them is not yet finished.
If we do not fulfill our promises to Afghans, we will be seen as untrustworthy. This could put American lives in danger in the future.
We need to stand up for our Afghan allies and ask our leaders to take action to help them.
