The images focus on a 5,000‑km‑wide patch and show hundreds of spiralling “twisters of fire” along the borders where dark and bright regions meet.

These spirals appear when two fluids on the Sun’s surface move at different speeds and collide, storing energy that may later be released as a solar flare.

Astronomer Dr. David Boboltz said the unprecedented photos could help scientists figure out the processes that trigger flares and eventually predict space weather that impacts Earth.

If space‑weather forecasts become more reliable, we can better protect satellites, power grids and other technologies that everyday life depends on.
