400-year-old Kumamoto Castle in Japan damaged by earthquake

Videos online showed part of Kumamoto Castle's walls falling down, with big rocks around the old fortress.

The castle's management said on social media that it was closed for the day due to the earthquake and asked people to be safe.

The post did not say if the old castle was damaged.

A big earthquake hit the Kumamoto area on Tuesday, causing damage, fires, and power outages, and affecting many homes.

The earthquake also stopped tourism in the area.

The local train company stopped its trains, including fast bullet trains, and the airport closed its runway, changing and cancelling flights.
