Vietnam has reduced electricity prices by 2% and temporarily eliminated the special consumption tax on gasoline, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung said, because the government wants to control inflation, keep prices stable and support economic growth. This change directly touches the cost of two essential household expenses, so it matters to every Vietnamese family.
From 1 November 2026, the government reduced electricity tariffs by 2%, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung said. The cut is the first reduction in years and aims to lower household electricity bills.
The special consumption tax on gasoline was set to 0% from 1 November 2026 through 31 March 2027, according to the same announcement. The tax cut has lowered domestic gasoline prices by VND1,575‑1,804 per litre (about $0.06‑$0.07), giving drivers a small but noticeable saving.
The government explained that these price‑management measures are part of its effort to keep inflation low and protect household purchasing power. The consumer price index rose 4.57% in the first ten months of the year, and the lower fuel taxes and electricity prices have helped contain price pressures, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung said.
In short, the 2% electricity tariff cut and the zero‑rate gasoline tax are expected to reduce everyday spending for Vietnamese households, while also supporting the government's goal of stable inflation. The gasoline tax relief lasts until the end of March 2027, after which prices may adjust again.
