Uber Driver Arrested for Raping a Woman at Knifepoint
Adam Daley, 33, saw the woman and her friend outside a bar in Leicester. He offered to drive them home if they booked the journey through the Uber app. The friends agreed, and after dropping one woman off, Daley drove the other to a remote area.
During the trip, Daley made inappropriate comments and asked the woman questions. He then pulled over, claiming he needed to use the toilet, but instead, he threatened her with a knife and forced her to do a sex act. He also pulled down her top and touched her.
Daley said he did not do these things.
After the woman asked him to stop, Daley drove away and left her alone. She immediately called the police, who used cameras to find Daley's car. About an hour after the rape, the police found Daley at a traffic light.
The police released a video showing officers taking Daley out of his car as he tried to destroy evidence. Daley was found guilty of rape and other crimes.
He was sentenced to 16 years in prison. Daley also admitted to having indecent images of a child on his phone.
The police think Daley may have hurt other women while driving for Uber.
Even though the woman's DNA was found on Daley, he said he did not do anything wrong. He claimed the DNA got there when the woman drank from a water bottle in his car. But the police found out Daley drove past the woman three times after leaving her.
The police believe Daley may have attacked other women while driving for Uber.
A detective said the victim was very brave and called the police right after the attack. Daley targeted a woman who was alone after she trusted him to drive her home.
The detective said it's possible Daley hurt other women who haven't come forward. If you are a victim of a sexual crime, the police are there to help you.
