The fire has been smouldering for more than a week, and smoke is drifting into nearby neighbourhoods. Residents are worried, especially families like one with a one‑year‑old whose asthma got worse.

Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas and Ward 11 Councillor Rob Ward co‑signed a letter asking the province to make detailed air‑quality data public. The office of environment minister Grant Hunter said the data will be released as soon as possible.

The fire department was called on Sept 6, got the blaze under control the next day, and issued a health advisory warning of eye, nose, throat irritation, coughing and headaches for people breathing the smoke.

When the data is public, residents can see how clean or polluted the air is, decide whether to stay indoors, use masks or even move temporarily. Transparent monitoring helps protect public health during the fire.
