Mooncake Prices Go Up

Hoa was surprised to see that mooncakes now cost VND830,000-850,000. This is for a box of four. Some stores sell them for VND1 million. The mid-autumn festival is on Sept. 25.

Last year, Hoa bought a similar box for VND700,000.

Mooncakes are on sale at a supermarket in Ho Chi Minh City.

Small bakeries and stores have raised their prices by 7-8% for some cakes and 10% for others.

Tran Tien Dung, a bakery owner, raised his prices by 15%. This is because his costs went up by 30-40%.

Big companies like KIDO have raised their prices by 3-5% for some mooncakes.

People are selling mooncakes online with different fillings. They are cheaper than in stores. But we must be careful when buying online.

The HCMC Department of Food Safety warns people to be careful when buying mooncakes online from unknown sellers.
