The Trauma Behind Airi Hirase’s 25 Plastic Surgeries

Japanese influencer Airi Hirase, 29, has become a sensation in South Korea after she posted before‑and‑after photos on X (formerly Twitter). The images show a dramatic change that she achieved by spending over ₩300 million KRW—about $223,000 USD—on more than twenty plastic surgeries.

Hirase’s surgical journey began at age 19 with her first cosmetic procedure. Since then she has undergone a series of operations, including breast augmentation and jaw surgery, eventually altering almost every feature of her face.

She says the decision to reshape her appearance was driven by childhood abuse and constant criticism from her mother. According to Hirase, her mother repeatedly told her she looked like her father, a man who had betrayed the family and left a huge debt, which made her obsess over changing her looks.

The stark contrast between her old and new looks captured the attention of Korean netizens. Many expressed fascination, while others offered sympathy and support, calling her determination to escape an unfavorable past inspiring.

Hirase’s case illustrates how deep‑seated emotional wounds and family pressure can lead someone to pursue extensive cosmetic procedures, shedding light on the personal motivations behind such transformations.
