Haze in Singapore: How Companies Protect Outdoor Workers

Companies are giving N95 masks and health reminders to workers who work outside because of the haze.

SingPost has bought enough N95 masks for nine weeks. It tells staff the daily PSI level. It asks them to drink water and watch for breathing or eye problems. If the PSI becomes hazardous, the company will cut workloads and give longer breaks.

The Ministry of Manpower says a PSI of 101‑200 is unhealthy, 201‑300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous. It tells employers to do risk assessments and reduce long or hard outdoor work.

Shell moves pump attendants inside when the PSI is over 100. Shell also gives N95 masks and reminds staff to stay hydrated. If the PSI gets higher, Shell may change where staff work.

OCBC provides N95 masks to its staff. It asks them to drink water, watch for symptoms, and follow air‑quality updates. The bank can offer flexible work for older workers, pregnant staff, or those with health conditions.
