Welsh version of Dolly Parton's "Jolene" shines a light on the Welsh language
The idea started when Dolly Parton's niece, Jada Star, heard Lewis's Welsh cover. Jada liked it and asked her aunt to join the project. Dolly agreed to sing on the new recording.
The song was released on Friday on all major streaming platforms. It is Dolly Parton's second posthumous release. She recorded it shortly before she died in August at the age of 80.
Lewis says the collaboration will do wonders for Welsh culture and the Welsh language. She hopes the song will make more people proud of their language.
According to the 2021 census, about 17.8% of people in Wales speak Welsh. The language has a long history of being suppressed, but it is still spoken today.
The Welsh version of "Jolene" shows that feelings like heartbreak are the same in any language. It also gives music fans around the world a chance to hear Welsh, helping the language become more visible.
