How Lu Market Keeps Traditional Snacks Cheap

The market is famous for cheap treats. Eight sugar‑coated fried cakes cost about 38 cents, and many other snacks cost between 8 and 15 cents each.
Du Thi Dua, a 69‑year‑old local resident, has sold fried cakes at Lu Market for 40 years. She still charges about 8 cents for a gac fried cake and about 38 cents for eight sugar‑coated fried cakes, even though ingredient costs have risen.
Dua says she makes a living by selling enough cakes each day to cover her costs. The profit on each cake is small, but the daily sales are enough for her income.
A visitor named Nhat Ha said she could spend about $1.90 on snacks and feel completely full, showing how affordable the market is for locals and tourists.
