How English Opened a World of Work, Travel and Love for Xa Ma

Hu Xa Ma undertook a long, arduous journey to become an online English teacher, a fact she herself confirms in the interview. The qualification now allows her to earn an income while living in her native region.
Her English proficiency gave her employment, the chance to explore new lands, and eventually a romance with Kaur, a 45‑year‑old IT engineer from Tallinn, Estonia, as she explains. The language acted as the bridge between their very different worlds.
Kaur first contacted Hu Xa Ma with an English idiom, saying it was meant to test her proficiency and sense of humor. She answered the idiom correctly, which impressed him and sparked their ongoing conversation.
Through motorbike road trips and flexible remote work, the couple now lives a nomadic lifestyle, travelling across Vietnam, the Philippines and several other Southeast Asian nations for one to two months at a time. Their work arrangements let them stay together while exploring each new place.
After nearly two years together, they have become part of each other’s families, showing deep cultural exchange and acceptance. Their parents now regard each other with affection, confirming the lasting impact of their cross‑cultural bond.
