The police were told about a man being threatened with a parang by a group at a carpark. This happened at about 1:55 am on Tuesday.
The police found out that the victim was confronted because of a car rental disagreement. One of the men, 38, had a parang and threatened the victim.
The victim was asked to sit in the front seat of his car, and the 38-year-old man drove him to another place with another man, 36, in the back.
The police found the victim's car and when the 38-year-old saw them, he ran away in the car with the victim and the 36-year-old man.
The police chased the car, which crashed into a lamppost at an intersection.
After the crash, the 36-year-old man ran away, and the 38-year-old man was arrested with a parang.
The 36-year-old man and two women, 30 and 38, were arrested later.
The 38-year-old man will be charged with abduction and having a scheduled weapon.
If he is guilty of abduction, he could go to jail for up to seven years and be fined or caned.
If he is guilty of having a scheduled weapon, he could go to jail for up to five years, be caned, and fined up to S$2,500.
The police are still investigating the 36-year-old man and the two women.
