Man Sentenced to Jail for Burgling Homes in Singapore
Huang Xiaozong broke into a suite and two houses, stealing over S$100,000 worth of valuables.
The 41-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of housebreaking, with one count of trespass considered for sentencing.
Huang visited Singapore for the first time on Dec 5, 2025, and stayed at a hotel in Little India.
He thought of stealing to earn money and noticed that Singapore is a rich country.
Huang targeted homes in wealthy areas that seemed empty to break in and steal.
The next day, Huang went to Sentosa and walked around the island.
He found a suite at The Knolls at Capella Singapore with no lights on and no one inside.
The suite was sometimes occupied by someone who was overseas when Huang broke in.
Huang forced open a sliding door and entered, finding jewellery and other items to steal.
He stole items worth S$58,000, including a Chanel watch and gold necklace.
The theft was discovered on Dec 8, 2025, when a housekeeper saw footprints and an empty cabinet.
There was another break-in at a home in Serangoon.
Huang climbed over a metal gate and stole items worth S$47,750, including Tiffany & Co rings.
The owner returned home and found her dressing table in a mess and items missing.
Huang trespassed into another house but was spotted by a domestic helper.
He responded in Mandarin and left when she asked what he was doing.
Huang returned to his hotel before moving to another hotel on Dec 8.
Police found and arrested him at the hotel that evening.
Items worth S$105,750 were found in his possession and seized.
The prosecution sought 45 to 49 months' jail, while the defence urged 30 months.
The prosecution said Huang targeted unoccupied homes and committed transnational crimes.
The defence described Huang's offences as amateurish and not pre-planned.
The defence also pointed out that the losses were minimal as items were recovered.
Huang could have been jailed up to 10 years and fined for house-breaking.
