Why True Fitness and True Yoga Closed and How the Singapore Fitness Alliance Is Helping
The companies’ parent, Hong‑Kong‑listed Kontafarma China Holdings, explained that the Singapore directors could no longer run the businesses because of mounting liabilities. It also pointed to “unprecedented” competition from boutique gyms, condominium and private‑home workout spaces, and the growing popularity of digital training.
In response, the Singapore Fitness Alliance (SFA) launched a job‑placement drive. Working with the National Instructors & Coaches Association (NICA) and NTUC’s e2i programme, the not‑for‑profit group says around 230 former employees and freelancers have already contacted it for help, according to SFA president and co‑founder Sean Tan.
Mr Tan added that SFA will not take part in any effort to recover unpaid salaries or commissions.
True Group, which runs ten fitness centres in Singapore under the True Fitness, TFX and Yoga Edition brands, is now entering liquidation, with insolvency practitioners provisionally appointed.
The alliance, whose members include most gyms, studios and boutique fitness outlets in the city, hopes its network can speed up re‑employment for the displaced staff.
