Alberta gas prices rise after Illinois refinery loses power

Dan McTeague, the president of Canadians for Affordable Energy, says the rise is not caused by world events. He points to a recent power failure at a refinery in Illinois.
The Exxon Mobil Joliet refinery in Channahon, Illinois lost electricity on Sunday. By Tuesday afternoon the plant was still not running.
The outage is expected to add about $0.18 to each litre of gasoline and about $0.24‑$0.25 to each litre of diesel. Diesel prices are already about twice what they were at this time last year.
Higher diesel costs can affect trucks, construction vehicles and other transport that people rely on every day.
