The Civilian Review and Complaints Commission (CRCC) announced that it will delay the release of its report on the Community‑Industry Response Group (C‑IRG). The decision was made public after British Columbia NDP leader David Eby called a snap election on Tuesday.

In an email to CBC Indigenous, the CRCC explained that during an election the provincial government operates under caretaker conventions. These conventions, the commission said, limit the government’s ability to act on matters that could be viewed as policy‑related or affect future decisions.

The commission added that publishing the report while the province is in caretaker mode would make it difficult for the relevant authorities to fully consider and respond to its findings and recommendations. Therefore, the CRCC will wait until a new government is sworn in and normal operations resume.

The report stems from a three‑year systemic investigation that began in 2023 after the commission received more than 500 formal complaints about C‑IRG’s enforcement actions. C‑IRG was created in 2017 to police protests against major resource projects, including the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.
