To mark the reopening and the museum’s 139th anniversary, it will run a nine‑day programme called “Stories of Everyday” from 10 October to 18 October.

During the programme the museum will introduce a new mascot called Stoney. Stoney is modelled after the Singapore Stone, a surviving fragment of a sandstone boulder that once stood at the mouth of the Singapore River.

The original boulder was blown up by the British in 1843. The remaining fragment still bears an inscription that scholars have not been able to read.

Stoney will appear in merchandise and meet‑and‑greet sessions throughout the celebrations, giving visitors a tangible link between the historic stone and the museum’s modern storytelling.
