City Mass Wedding Helps Low‑Income Workers Celebrate
The annual mass wedding program started in Ho Chi Minh City in 2007. It was created for young workers and laborers who have financial difficulties, giving them a chance to marry without high costs.
Thai Thi Hoai Son, director of the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Supporting Young Workers and deputy head of the wedding organizing committee, said the ceremony mixed bicycle rides and Metro Line No. 1 travel to add cultural appeal and protect the environment. The organizers also gave a ‘Dream Room’ and scholarships for the workers’ children, and this year’s wedding was the first since the city merged with Binh Duong and Ba Ria‑Vung Tau.
Across 16 editions, the program has helped 1,206 couples tie the knot. The mass wedding shows that city programs can support workers’ dreams, keep cultural pride alive, and encourage greener travel.
