Axiom’s AI‑Built Library Becomes the Largest Formal Mathematics Collection
Axiom said its AI agents converted about 7,654 pages of the Stacks Project into 16 million lines of code, creating the largest integrated, reusable library of formalized mathematics ever built. The work turns a two‑decade‑old reference into a computer‑checked resource.
Axiom said the library enables researchers and AI systems to develop new mathematical proofs using previously verified knowledge. This reuse of trusted material could speed up discovery and reduce costly mistakes.
Axiom raised $64 million in 2025 and $200 million in March 2026, bringing its valuation to more than $1.6 billion. The funding reflects investor confidence in the commercial potential of large‑scale formal verification.
Founder Carina Hong left a Stanford mathematics PhD program to start Axiom in March 2025, aiming to address AI‑generated proofs that outpace manual checking. Axiom’s AI uses the Lean system to verify each proof step, uncovering errors and missing conditions in the original statements. The approach ensures every logical move is checked by a computer.
The collection is publicly available for mathematicians, and Axiom plans to apply the technology to software development for error detection and code verification. This expansion could help engineers detect bugs and verify the reliability of AI‑generated code.
