Electric Double‑Deck Buses Boost Ho Chi Minh City’s Green Tourism

Nguyen Le Vinh Lynh, director of the Ho Chi Minh City branch of Vietnam Sightseeing JSC, said the company deployed two electric double‑deck buses, marking the city’s first such vehicles. The launch follows a similar rollout in Hanoi last month.
Lynh explained that the electric buses are intended to enhance the sightseeing experience and promote greener transport, aligning with the city’s sustainable urban tourism goals. He added that ticket prices will stay unchanged, the company will focus on central routes first, and it aims to convert the whole sightseeing fleet to electric by 2030.
The city’s emissions‑control roadmap includes a pilot low‑emission zone from 2028 and plans that vehicles operating in low‑emission zones must use clean energy by 2040. The requirement will extend to all vehicles across Ho Chi Minh City, including specialized ones, by 2045.
Travel agencies report growing demand for eco‑friendly tourism, especially from European visitors. Nguyen Van Luan of Vietbalo Tour said that electric sightseeing vehicles could help position Ho Chi Minh City as a greener, more environmentally friendly destination for international tourists.
