How Xuan Hinh Built the Dao Mau Museum

To build the museum, Hinh spent five years collecting more than 6 million genuine historical bricks and tiles from about 500 households across Vietnam. He placed the museum inside a 50‑year‑old orchard and surrounded it with a 20‑year‑old wall covered in fig trees, protecting the natural setting.
In 2023, Italy’s architecture and design magazine Domus ranked the museum among the top 14 best projects of the year. Dao Mau worship was recognized by UNESCO in 2016 as an intangible cultural heritage. Beauty queen Nguyen Phuong Nhi visited the museum; she is married to Pham Nhat Minh Hoang, the second son of Vingroup chairman Vuong, who is the richest person in Southeast Asia with a US$37.2 billion fortune (according to Forbes).
Xuan Hinh’s long work and careful design have turned many old bricks into a place that celebrates Vietnamese heritage. The museum shows how dedication can protect culture for future generations.
