A 30‑second banana rinse may stop fruit flies from breeding

The Taiwanese creator duo The Fish Paste Couple shared a tip on their Facebook page, FPC Channel, based on an X user who had a fruit‑fly problem linked to bananas.

When the problem got worse as temperatures rose, the user called a professional pest controller for help.

The pest controller suggested rinsing each newly bought banana under running water for about 30 seconds before storing it.

According to the pest controller, banana peels may carry numerous fruit‑fly eggs that are too small to see. If the eggs stay on the fruit after it is brought indoors, they may hatch and add to the home’s fruit‑fly population.

Washing the peel is meant to remove some of these eggs before they hatch, not just to stop adult fruit flies from landing on or damaging the bananas.

The user said the fruit‑fly problem disappeared after they started the 30‑second rinse.

This cheap, easy step can help keep kitchens free of fruit flies by removing hidden eggs before they hatch.
