Canadian Astronaut Jeremy Hansen Retires

The Canadian Space Agency announced Jeremy Hansen's retirement just 3 months after his trip to the moon.

Astronaut Jeremy Hansen, who traveled to the moon in April, is leaving the Canadian Space Agency.

The agency announced Hansen's retirement in a news release this afternoon.

The Canadian government is recognizing Hansen's contributions to the space program. He will start new work in September and remain in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a reservist.

Hansen flew to the moon with NASA astronauts in April as part of the Artemis II mission.

Hansen shared the news of his retirement from the Canadian Space Agency on social media.

In September, after 32 years of military service and 17 years as an astronaut, Hansen will leave his full-time role at the agency.

Hansen says this is not the end of his work. He will remain committed to Canada's space efforts and take on a new role with the Royal Canadian Air Force to support the country's space work.

Hansen was chosen as an astronaut in 2009 and graduated from training in 2011. He worked at NASA and prepared for the Artemis II mission.

Hansen enjoyed many parts of the Artemis II mission, he told CBC News.

He liked the visuals and physical experiences of the mission, such as riding the rocket and coming back in the capsule.

But Hansen said the best part was the human experience.
