Man Gets Jail Time for Helping Sex Workers Avoid Police

A man in Singapore took a job as a lookout for police to help sex workers on the day he was released from prison.

Magandran Nadarajan, 49, was sentenced to 33 weeks in jail. 19 weeks was for breaking his remission order.

Magandran admitted to helping sex workers and trying to stop the police from doing their job. Two other charges were also considered.

The court heard that Magandran had been in trouble before for a similar crime related to sex work, making him a repeat offender.

He was released from prison on December 27, 2025, with a remission order that was valid until mid-June 2026.

That same day, Magandran met his friend Subash and they talked about getting jobs. Subash offered Magandran a job to watch out for police near Lorong 22, Geylang.

Magandran's job was to help sex workers avoid the police. If he saw any police, he would call Subash, who would warn the sex workers.

Both men knew that their actions were wrong and were trying to stop the police from doing their job.

Magandran took the job and rode his bike in the area from December 27, 2025, to around February 10, 2026.

He would look out for police from 9pm to 5am and call Subash whenever he saw any officers.

About 15 sex workers used their services every day, paying Subash S$10 each, who would then give Magandran his share of S$60 to S$70.

One sex worker came to Singapore in December 2025 to work illegally, introduced by a friend.

Subash approached the woman and offered her his services for S$10 a day while she was looking for customers.

The woman paid Subash S$10 on at least 48 occasions, totaling S$480 for the services.

The police found out about the services and arrested Magandran and Subash at Lorong 22, Geylang on February 10, 2026.

Subash's case is still pending.

The prosecutor asked for 14 to 17 weeks in jail for Magandran, plus an extra 19 to 23 weeks for breaking his remission order.

The prosecutor said Magandran was a repeat offender who committed crimes almost every day.

The crimes happened over two and a half months, with about 15 sex workers using their services daily.

The prosecutor also said that Magandran has a low chance of changing his ways since he offended on the day he was released.

As a repeat offender, Magandran could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined up to S$150,000.

For trying to stop the police from doing their job, Magandran could have been jailed for up to seven years, fined, or both.
