Tottenham signs Mateus Fernandes, beating Manchester United

Mateus Fernandes joins Tottenham in a big deal.

Tottenham agreed to pay £85million for Mateus Fernandes, beating Manchester United's offer. Fernandes is 21 and will move to Tottenham.

Manchester United wanted Fernandes, but Tottenham's offer was too high. United's coach, Michael Carrick, wants to rebuild his team's midfield.

United stopped trying to sign another player, Elliot Anderson, and focused on Fernandes instead. They didn't want to pay £116million for Anderson.

Now, United needs to find another player. Their current midfielder, Casemiro, is leaving the team. United has agreed to sign Ederson from Atalanta for £35million.

Fernandes will be Tottenham's fifth new player this summer. They have already signed Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka, and Jan Paul van Hecke.

Tottenham and United both need new midfielders. Some of Tottenham's current players might leave the team, including Lucas Bergvall.

West Ham, another team, had to sell some players to get money. Other teams are interested in buying their player, Jarrod Bowen.
