A 96‑Year‑Old Uses AI to Travel Solo to Tibet

96‑year‑old Tan left his home in Jiangsu Province and took a train to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. The trip let him visit every provincial‑level division of China, a goal he had wanted for years.

Travel agencies refused his booking because of his age, so he decided to travel on his own. He downloaded an AI application and used it to plan the journey, even asking the AI if a 96‑year‑old could travel safely to Lhasa.

The train covered more than 3,000 km and took 43 hours to reach Lhasa on Oct. 12. During the ride, a young woman gave him a better sleeper berth and railway staff gave him a wheelchair; hotel workers also checked on him. He said he felt no altitude‑sickness symptoms.

Tan left Lhasa and returned safely to Wuxi on Oct. 21. His trip shows that AI can help people of any age plan travel, and that perseverance can overcome age‑related obstacles.
