Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks, who is from Mississauga, Ontario, has been charged with a DUI, a case that could affect his career and the Suns.
Police stopped Brooks on March 6 at about 1 a.m. in Scottsdale, Arizona. After the stop he was taken to jail and released around 3:30 a.m. He was out with a fractured left hand at the time of the arrest.
The charge is a Class 1 misdemeanor DUI. Court records show his DUI court date is Oct. 28. Suns senior vice president of communications Stacey Mitch said the charge “stems from the incident last March” and that the team has addressed the matter with Dillon.
Brooks, 30, averaged a career‑high 20.2 points per game last season. He signed a $73 million, three‑year contract extension that keeps him with the Suns through 2030. He also played for Canada at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In addition, Brooks faces separate misdemeanor reckless‑driving and speeding charges from a January arrest. The court date for that case is Nov. 9.
Legal problems can hurt a player’s reputation, affect his contract and change how teammates and fans see him. The Suns and Brooks will need to manage the situation carefully.
