Montreal and Quebec City were announced on Thursday as Canada’s co‑host cities for the 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup, marking the tournament’s debut on North American soil.

The competition will run from Aug. 20 to Sept. 5, 2027. Games will be staged at Montreal’s Bell Centre and Quebec City’s Videotron Centre, alongside already‑named venues in Omaha, Nebraska; Orlando, Florida; and Anaheim, California.

Canada secured a place in the 2028 Olympic women’s volleyball tournament – its first qualification since the Atlanta Games in 1996 – by winning the NORCECA Olympic qualifying tournament on Aug. 29 in the Dominican Republic.

Because the team already has an Olympic berth, it can approach the World Cup without the pressure of trying to qualify, allowing players to concentrate on performance. “We’ll be able to really enjoy the experience of playing in the World Cup a lot differently than if we had this massive weight, the burden of qualifying on us,” said the 28‑year‑old setter.

The World Cup also serves as an Olympic qualifier. The three highest‑placed non‑qualified nations will join the United States, Canada, Thailand, Egypt, Turkey and Brazil, which are already confirmed for Los Angeles 2028.

Brie Fransen of Langley, B.C., noted that having the Olympic spot “in our pockets” gives the squad extra moxie and lets them feed off the home‑court momentum that comes with playing in familiar Canadian arenas.

Hosting the event gives Canadian volleyball a rare spotlight, helping the team test itself against top competition, raise its profile at home, and build confidence ahead of the 2028 Games.
