The group, led by Do Minh Ho Hai, left Hanoi on July 6. They travelled through 20 countries and reached Paris on September 8. The journey lasted 68 days on the road, with 65 days spent driving.
The rally‑style trip used seven cars and two motorbikes. All vehicles followed the same route but moved at their own speed. Before the trip the team spent a year training, gathering travel documents and mapping the whole route. "For us, the year of preparation was just as important as the 68 days on the road," Hai says.
After every two or three days of driving the team took a day off to explore the city they had just reached. They stayed 17 days in China, the longest stop. At the Kyrgyzstan border the group waited 13 hours while officials checked documents for 16 people and their vehicles. The long wait showed how a single paperwork problem could change the whole plan.
The whole trip covered about 22,000 kilometers. It cost roughly VND600 million (US$23,080) per person, which included fuel, tolls, vehicle maintenance and the cost of shipping the cars back to Vietnam.
From this journey we can learn three key points: careful preparation makes long trips possible; traveling at your own pace and taking regular breaks helps handle unexpected delays; and being open to local cultures creates memorable experiences.
