Vice‑Chairman Ho Quang Buu said that Da Nang is testing crypto‑asset solutions under a supervised sandbox to make transactions more convenient for international tourists. The sandbox includes a solution that lets users convert Tether (USDT) into Vietnamese dong through an app licensed by Da Nang, with the dong then used for payments at local merchants. This approach could replace the need to find a currency‑exchange booth.

City leaders have stressed that the models must show tangible results, backed by measurable data, and clearly contribute to economic growth. They want the trials to prove they can solve problems efficiently and at a reasonable cost.

Tran Manh Huy noted that many visitors find it hard to exchange money, a minor inconvenience that repeats millions of times and becomes a real cost for the tourism industry. He added that, if successful, the technology could shorten transaction times, keep costs reasonable and improve transparency, helping tourists and small‑medium enterprises alike.
