Vietnam’s ambition to become more competitive hinges on how its top university turns research into real‑world impact. Understanding VNU Hanoi’s new strategy helps readers see the opportunities and challenges ahead for the nation’s job market and economy.
Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung called on Vietnam National University, Hanoi to lead technology development and to commercialise research results. He stressed the need to gather talent, strengthen science and turn discoveries into marketable products.
With a 120‑year history, VNU Hanoi has confirmed its position as one of Vietnam’s leading centres for education and scientific research. Its long‑standing reputation gives it a solid foundation to drive the country’s next wave of innovation.
Six start‑up enterprises have already been created from university research, showing progress in linking scientific work with practical application. These ventures illustrate how academic findings can move quickly toward the market.
Vietnam is entering a new development stage that demands higher labour productivity, greater self‑reliance and stronger national competitiveness. In response, the university’s plan aims to become an elite research hub, promote digital transformation and artificial intelligence, and expand the Hoa Lac campus to accommodate 60,000 students by 2030. The 120‑Day Breakthrough Development Plan rests on four pillars: governance and smart infrastructure, science‑technology‑innovation, state‑university‑business cooperation, and elite workforce development.
