South Korea’s interim coach Paulo Moreno has publicly supported Son Heung‑min as captain, even though rumours of a split in the squad have appeared. The story shows how a coach’s words can help a team stay calm.

Moreno named Son Heung‑min as captain for the upcoming friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Qatar. He also said he has held many conversations with the players and spent more time talking than training.

Rumours of discord started after defender Kim Min‑jae threw his boots in anger and said every player must give their all. Moreno answered that the team is healthy and he backs the players to work together.

Moreno’s contract will end after the two friendlies, but the football association could keep him for the Asian Cup in January. The association also asked fans to stop excessive personal attacks on players after the World Cup disappointment.

By naming Son captain and speaking openly, Moreno tried to clear the rumours and keep the squad united. His approach shows that clear leadership can help a group stay focused under pressure.
