From November 1, 2026, Vietnam will charge no special consumption tax on gasoline until the end of March 2027. This temporary cut is designed to keep fuel prices stable, which directly affects the cost of commuting and daily expenses.
Resolution No. 45/2026/NQ-CP sets the special consumption tax on all gasoline at 0% from 1 November 2026 until 31 March 2027. The zero‑rate applies to every gasoline type sold in Vietnam.
The government has earmarked about US$154 million for the tax cut in the last two months of 2026. This amount is part of a larger US$2.4 billion budget dedicated to petroleum tax and fee reductions.
The measure follows a sharp increase in domestic fuel prices on 29 October, and its main aim is to stabilize prices and safeguard energy security. Retail price ceilings were set at US$1.00 per litre for E5RON92 gasoline, US$0.99 per litre for E10RON95‑III gasoline, and US$1.16 per litre for diesel.
If the tax cut works as intended, drivers should see gasoline and diesel prices stay near the new ceilings, easing the pressure on household budgets. In short, the 0 % excise tax could translate into lower fuel costs for everyday Vietnamese consumers.
