Vietnam has lowered the price of electricity. This change can affect the money that families and companies spend every month, so it is worth reading.
The average retail price is now VND2,159.90 per kilowatt‑hour. EVN said this is the first decrease in almost 20 years. Between 2023 and 2025, electricity prices rose 18.2% after being unchanged from March 2019 to May 2023.
EVN said the cut follows a review and cost‑cutting to support people and businesses and help stabilize the macroeconomy. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang said the government directed EVN to lower the average retail price by about 2%.
The reduction, together with a zero special consumption tax on gasoline, provides about 0.07 percentage points extra room to control inflation toward the 4.5% target set by the National Assembly. This extra room can help keep price rises slower.
In short, cheaper electricity should lower bills for households and help businesses keep costs down. It also gives the government a small extra chance to keep inflation near the 4.5% goal.
