Vietnam is building a nationwide AI‑driven traffic management system that will automatically record violations and enforce tougher fines. The plan, announced by the Ministry of Public Security, aims to make roads safer by 2030.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Ngoc Lam, Deputy Minister of Public Security, explained that the project will create a two‑tier network of traffic data centres by 2028 – one national centre and 34 provincial centres linked through a shared data system. Surveillance cameras will cover 100 % of operational expressways and will later be added to other major routes.

The system is designed so that by 2030 at least 90 % of administrative traffic violations are processed electronically. It also aims to cut the time needed to detect and coordinate responses to incidents by at least 50 % compared with today.

Authorities plan to keep the platform available at least 99.5 % of the time and to run an integrated AI‑powered traffic management platform. Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc said the technology is expected to lower accidents, ease congestion, protect lives and reduce social costs.

If the targets are met, everyday commuters could notice faster incident handling, more automatic fines for violations, and generally safer, smoother journeys. The AI system will become a core part of Vietnam’s digital infrastructure and road safety strategy.
