On October 26, Park Jin‑won – an English literature graduate with no coding background – launched Sansa, an online Buddhist temple, by using OpenAI’s AI coding tool Codex. His story shows how AI‑driven ‘vibe coding’ can turn a simple idea into a functional digital space within minutes.

Vibe coding lets users describe what they want in everyday language, while the AI writes the underlying program. Park typed his vision, and the system generated the code, enabling him to finish the first version of Sansa in under 30 minutes; even basic actions such as virtual bowing and moving prayer beads were produced in about 10 minutes.

The platform’s reception was immediate. According to the Herald Business, Sansa attracted 600,000 visits during its first three days and surpassed one million users by 1 November, indicating a rapid viral spread.

Sansa recreates the serenity of a secluded Buddhist temple: lush greenery, a large Buddha statue, meditation cushions, and traditional chanting. Visitors appear as cartoon figures, can bow before the statue, manipulate prayer beads, or simply sit in silence, which many describe as calming.

The unexpected popularity of Sansa has already sparked similar AI‑powered religious projects in South Korea, including the virtual Catholic church Chanmi and the Protestant site Goyottul. Park’s experience demonstrates that AI coding tools can empower anyone, regardless of programming skill, to launch a widely used virtual experience.
