Vietnam’s national team will enter the November FIFA window without many of its usual stars. Understanding how coach Kim Sang Sik handles this shortage helps explain the country’s long‑term Asian Cup strategy.

Key players Quang Hai, Hoang Duc, Cao Quang Vinh, Xuan Son, Hoang Hen, Van Hau and Xuan Manh are unavailable because of injuries, physical overload or the need for rest. Coach Kim Sang Sik himself admitted that the 23‑man November squad is not the strongest possible lineup for Vietnam.

Five players were called up from Vietnam’s First Division, an unusually high number for the national team. Their inclusion signals the coach’s willingness to search for talent beyond the top‑tier V‑League.

According to the coach, the selection process prioritises individual form, tactical suitability and the immediate personnel needs of the side, rather than the clubs’ league positions. This performance‑based approach allows players who are currently in good shape to earn a place, even if they play for smaller clubs.

The flexible approach expands opportunities for emerging players and is viewed as encouraging for Vietnam’s future, especially ahead of the 2027 Asian Cup. If the newcomers adapt to Kim Sang Sik’s system, the national team could build a deeper, more competitive pool for the continental tournament.
