What the BYD U9 Xtreme Crash Teaches About Ultra‑Fast Car Safety

Bài học về an toàn từ vụ va chạm của siêu xe BYD U9 Xtreme

Nguồn: Vnexpress

A BYD U9 Xtreme, the world’s fastest production car, crashed on a closed test track in China while being driven at extreme speed. The incident offers clear lessons about the safety challenges of testing ultra‑high‑speed electric vehicles.

The U9 Xtreme set the official record of 496.22 kph on 14 September 2025 at the Automotive Testing Papenburg facility in Germany, according to BYD. It reaches that speed with four electric motors that together produce 2,977 horsepower, and it is equipped with an advanced suspension system and specially developed racing tires.

During a later test in China, veteran BYD driver Jiang Wen was accelerating the car to between 420 and 450 kph when it became unstable. He tried to ease off the accelerator, but the rear swung and the vehicle struck a left‑hand barrier at about 360 kph before hitting the opposite barrier.

The impact tore the rear axle assembly from the car and caused extensive damage to both the front and rear sections, yet Jiang Wen climbed out of the vehicle without serious injury. The cause of the initial loss of control has not been publicly established.

The crash reminds manufacturers that even a limited‑run supercar—BYD plans to build no more than 30 units—must undergo thorough safety checks before attempting speeds beyond 500 kph. Real‑world testing can reveal instability that records alone cannot predict.
